Open Circle

Theatre Laboratory Open Circle

Vilnius/LT

I remember; dancing, loving, tasting my first kiss. My memory brings all that back to life. I remember. The actors sit in a circle and search for answers to sensitive questions from their past. They start with memories from their childhood and grow older each round, until they finally reach adolescence and have to resolve their first conflicts. With their stories, the actors give the audience an insight into their inner lives and their experiences. But talking about oneself always implies talking about others as well; about the opposite, about one’s generation. This tension between closeness and distance, self-awareness and knowledge about others is what characterises the distinct theatrical style of the performance.

Director Aidas Giniotis developed Open Circle with third-year students from the Lithuanian Acadamy of Theatre and Music. In 2005, the performance was awarded with the Golden Stage Cross Award for best performance in the field of theatre for a young audience. In 2006, Aidas Giniotis was furthermore voted Best Director of the Year in Lithuania.
