Das Prinzip Struwwelpeter

Mezzanin Theater

Graz/AT

The Shaggy-Peter-Principle

Under the supervision of Bad Frederick...
... Dr Schneider will look for a new thumb.
... Fidgety Philip will mix street dance logobi with Dada and Gaga.
... one will wonder why there are so many brooms.
... Soup-Kaspar will only be served Japanese soup.

It seems that the German children’s book “Der Struwwelpeter”, a classic example of poisonous pedagogy, does not comply with today’s liberal educational methods. However, if read as a hymn to the crossing of borders, it becomes a subversive textbook on how to be radically stubborn, how to creatively violate rules and how to daringly ignore consequences. In cooperation with national and international artists from different branches of the arts, Mezzanin Theater presents a mashup of episodes based loosely on “Der Struwwelpeter”.

Over the last 21 years, artistic directors Martina Kolbinger-Reiner and Hanni Westphal have made Mezzanin Theater a theatre company with an excellent reputation far beyond Styrian borders.
